Jamila Al-Yousef
Jamila Al-Yousef is a cultural scholar, musician, theatre maker, and discrimination-sensitive consultant. Born on the day the wall fell in East Berlin and inspired by her Palestinian family history, she has long connected artistic practice with power-critical educational, advisory, and curatorial work at the intersection of art, politics, and social transformation.
As an internationally touring musician with her band Jamila & The Other Heroes and as a process facilitator, she works at the intersection of art, activism, and institutional change. Since 2019, she has advised cultural institutions, clubs, and festivals across Germany on power-sharing, anti-racism, empowerment, and awareness.
A particular focus of her work lies in empowerment programmes for cultural practitioners affected by discrimination, as well as in addressing anti-Muslim racism and antisemitism in the context of Palestine–Israel. Drawing on her long-standing work in West Asia and North Africa, she is regularly invited to develop context-specific consultations, workshops, and awareness concepts.
Her work is grounded in a power-critical, trauma-informed, and dialogical approach that centres affected perspectives and understands cultural work as a space for solidarity and collective agency.
