Was davon unterstützt dich – und was trägt deine Kunst am besten? Das Ziel: eine Identität\, die du nicht spielen musst\, sondern die du bewohnst. Eine\, die dir Sicherheit gibt – und deinem Publikum Orientierung. \n

SUMMARY:Shifts to the right - Questions of alliances and what to do in music scenes
DESCRIPTION:Taking an incident of right-wing vandalism at a music/cultural space in Schöneweide as a starting point\, we want to open a conversation on how we as music scenes deal with current moves to the political right and cultural infrastructures under pressure. We are particularly interested in the question of alliances — how they are built\, where they fail\, and what they require at this moment. We would like to engage in a conversation that starts off with invited guests and then opens up into a collective conversation and exercise of sharing and mapping of experiences\, questions\, examples\, and initiatives. \n  \nTo start with\, the percentage of the population in Germany that supports fascist ideas has grown\, including in youth and music cultures. Where do we as music scenes interface with these developments? Are there more examples of right-wing attacks\, and what do support\, solidarity\, and alliances across scenes and communities look like in these cases? Can music also be a way to work with youth so they don’t join fascist groups in the first place\, and what are examples? \n  \nThen\, there is the shifting of political agendas and overall discourse\, which materializes e.g. in shifts of public funding away from culture and social causes in general\, and in cases of defunding and cancellations specifically. At the same time\, prices are rising\, and AI is writing the next 10K songs. Leftist scenes are fractured\, and wars and violence leave many people grieving and exhausted. How do we as scenes respond to cultural infrastructures under pressure and sustain and build music cultures at the current moment? Where do we see our roles (“we” being very different perspectives also in the different scenes)? Who is particularly at risk? And crucially: how can alliances be built or rebuilt across differences\, disciplines\, and communities? What can we learn from existing practices of organizing\, solidarity\, and long-term coalition building? \n  \nAnd then\, there is also the music itself in this moment – What about protest songs and ways of artistic interventions? What about music as a space to bring different people together — not only symbolically\, but as a site of real alliance-building? How does music contribute to activist and social organizing? What are ways of dealing with the moment in an antifascist way\, with our practices\, and within and across our scenes? \nPanelists: \nAriel William Orah is an Indonesian artist and community catalyst based in Berlin. Orah’s interdisciplinary practice critically engages with systemic structures while addressing the emotional and cultural dimensions of displacement and identity. Working across performance\, sound art\, and socially engaged projects—with a keen focus on social and climate injustice—Orah co-founded the collaborative platform and art group sōydivsion\, the think-tank initiative Mutating Kinship Lab\, and the empathy-driven sound collective L-KW. (arielorah.com) \nMALONDA is a very versatile and outspoken artist on the current music scene. The Berlin-based singer and ‘electronic diva’\, who writes her own songs and also shines on the theatre stage\, consistently tackles anti-racist and queer-feminist themes. With her highly acclaimed debut album *Mein Herz ist ein dunkler Kontinent* and appearances at festivals such as c/o pop\, Pop-Kultur Berlin and the Reeperbahn Festival\, she has made a name for herself in the music world. As a Black queer-feminist\, MALONDA also shares her perspectives through panel discussions\, texts and workshops\, and is working to embed intersectional approaches more firmly within the German discourse. (https://www.youtube.com/@FrauMalonda) \nSimon Knop Jacobsen is a cultural manager based in Potsdam\, Germany. He works at ImPuls Brandenburg\, the state association representing socioculture\, popular music\, and festivals\, where he is responsible for the festival sector. In his role\, he supports and advocates for the development and sustainability of festival culture across the region. He is also the organiser of Forum KulturSichern\, an initiative dedicated to improving the conditions in which cultural events are organised and strengthening their protection and resilience. \nwww.impuls-brandenburg.de \nhttps://www.impuls-brandenburg.de/forum-kultursichern/  \nAdam Cooke\, originally from Dublin\, Ireland is a Berlin based DJ\, radio host and activist who has been involved with Refuge Worldwide since 2022 and joined the team in 2024. Music is central to his activism and believes strongly that culture can be a key catalyst for change. \nDJ: \nPisitakun Kuantalueng is originally from Bangkok\, Thailand\, and started making visual arts and music in 2014. Blending historical events and political speculation with synthetic textures and traditional instruments\, his sound confronts both external control and the inner unrest faced by artists. He questions fundamental and increasingly universal values without simply decrying corruption or offering neat solutions. Pisitakun initiated the project “Three Sound of Revolution”\, concerned with music and political protest\, while a DAAD music and sound fellow\, 2023.  https://threesound.org/ \nThis evening is organized by Music Pool Berlin in collaboration with Moving Poets Berlin and sōydivision.

SUMMARY:If You Don't Write It\, The Internet Will - Artist Bio & Press Release
DESCRIPTION:A workshop on artist bios\, press copy\, and taking control of your narrative \nA two-decade practice of writing press releases and artist bios\, distilled into two days. \nDay 1 (3 hrs) — The Artist Bio. 2 pm to 5 pm \nDay 2 (3 hrs) — The Press Release. 2 pm to 5 pm \nThis isn’t a writing class\, and it isn’t an AI class. It’s a process: extracting the key narratives\, building the architecture of your text\, and finding the specific language — the palette — that reflects who you are and what your music is right now. \nAI is not a shortcut here\, and we won’t be using it to write. If you can write\, you’ll write. If you need a scaffold\, it’s there — AI solves a problem I couldn’t solve before: how to support artists who struggle with prose without turning the whole thing into a beginner’s writing class. What it also makes possible is a different kind of research: mining film reviews\, art criticism\, or any cultural reference point for the exact phrases and metaphors that embody your sound. And when you’re too deep in your own work to see it clearly\, it helps you get a clear signal back. \nBecause whether someone googles you or asks an AI assistant\, what comes back is a synthesis of every text that exists about you online. If you don’t write that story\, the internet will.

SUMMARY:From Competition to Solidarity: How Can We Support Each Other in Getting Gigs and More?
DESCRIPTION:Being an independent musician today means navigating many roles at once: writing\, producing\, releasing\, booking\, promoting — often under increasing financial pressure and within a system shaped by competition and scarcity. Rising costs\, limited resources\, and unstable conditions make it harder to sustain artistic work in the long term. \nThis evening invites a shift in perspective:\nWhat if we moved beyond competition and started thinking in terms of solidarity?\nWhat would it mean to support each other\, for example in getting gigs\, and also across all aspects of being musicians? \nTogether with Jamila Al-Yousef (Jamila & The Other Heroes) and Melissa Perales\, we open a space to exchange experiences\, share strategies\, and imagine new ways of working together — from songwriting and production to touring\, promotion\, and community building. \nHow can we share knowledge\, resources\, and networks?\nHow can we build sustainable communities of care and mutual support within and beyond the music scene? \nThe evening is designed as a mixed format: starting with a panel conversation\, followed by facilitated small group sessions to allow for deeper exchange and co-creation\, and closing with time for networking\, music\, and drinks. \nSpeakers \nJamila Al-Yousef is a Berlin based cultural studies scholar\, musician\, theater maker\, festival curator\, and anti discrimination consultant. With her internationally touring band Jamila & The Other Heroes she blends psychedelic desert rock with a message of collective liberation. Born in East Berlin on the day the Wall fell and shaped by her Palestinian heritage\, her music channels revolutionary energy and diasporic stories into songs of liberation\, empowerment\, and healing. Singing in Arabic and English\, she creates concerts that are wild\, tender\, and deeply political rituals of unity and defiance. Jamila combines her artistic practice with social justice work\, focusing on power sharing\, anti racism\, empowerment\, and awareness. As a trainer and consultant of cultural organizations\, clubs and festivals\, she works with a power critical and trauma informed approach and centers the perspectives of those affected. \nJamila Al-Yousef has brought the idea for this topic and format to Music Pool\, and also curates and hosts the evening together with us. \nİpek İpekçioğlu\, also known as DJ Ipek\, has been one of the leading figures on the global ethnic-orient-electronic music scene for over 30 years. As a DJ\, producer\, curator and queer activist\, she divides her time between Berlin and Istanbul\, combining club culture with cultural diversity\, political stance and artistic vision in her work. As resident DJ at the legendary Gayhane – QueerOriental Dancefloor at Berlin’s SO36\, she has been helping to shape one of Berlin’s most important and longest-running queer dancefloors for decades. Her sets transcend boundaries of origin\, gender and identity\, transforming every dancefloor – from underground raves to festival stages – into a space of freedom\, resistance and belonging. \nMelissa Perales is a music curator\, promoter\, and consultant\, and part of the team at Music Pool Berlin\, where she supports artists through consultation\, networking\, and community-building. As founder of M:Soundtrack and curator of projects such as Café Chocolat and the DURCHLÜFTEN Festival at the Humboldt Forum\, her work focuses on creating sustainable structures for independent artists\, with a strong commitment to solidarity\, inclusion\, and marginalized voices. In this session\, she joins as both host and speaker to share perspectives on building stronger support systems within the music community—from booking gigs to long-term collective growth. \nJulia Siemienowicz is a multidisciplinary producer and community facilitator with a foundation in art criticism\, art history\, and research. She focuses on advancing cultural development through international exchange\, cross-disciplinary collaboration\, and intersectional dialogue. Julia is a member of The Palace Collective\, and one of the lead producers for The Palace Residency. Based in Berlin\, she is currently leading the development of a 90mil – a multidisciplinary cultural venue dedicated to fostering artistic expression\, community engagement\, and cultural innovation. \n  \nDJ  \nCalamidades Lola is a record hunter\, DJ selector\, and radio host from the Colombian Caribbean\, currently based in Berlin\, Germany. Much of the sound she shares\, whether on the dance floor\, in listening sessions\, or on radio shows\, is deeply influenced by her musical roots and migratory experience. She has performed at clubs\, festivals\, and art spaces across Europe. Calamidades Lola is resident at Refuge Worldwide\, where she hosts a radio show called Ama de Caza\, sharing her most recent finds on wax and inviting DJs\, musicians\, and researchers of African diaspora sounds.

SUMMARY:Expanding Your Artist Brand & Independent Income (in 2 parts)
DESCRIPTION:Expert: Flora Lingenauber \n\nHer areas of focus include strategic artist development\, positioning and brand strategy\, financing and partnerships\, as well as artistic self-leadership and decision-making\n\n  \nThis two-part workshop is for you if you have a multifaceted practice\, an established presence\, an audience\, and a clear artistic direction\, but feel too dependent on external structures to generate income. \nIs that you: You are visible\, working across multiple projects and roles\, shaping ideas\, communities\, or cultural spaces. And yet\, a large part of what you do still depends on platforms\, institutions\, or opportunities that don’t fully align with your vision. The work is there\, but the structure behind it doesn’t fully hold it. \nIn the first workshop\, you will expand your existing artist brand into a more strategic positioning. The focus is on translating your multifaceted practice into a clear external perception that attracts next-level opportunities\, collaborations\, and platforms that match the direction and impact of your work. \nThe second workshop builds on this foundation and focuses on income. You will reframe how you currently earn\, where you are dependent\, and what keeps your income tied to external structures. The session opens up new ways of thinking about income\, value\, and independence\, and helps you develop new approaches to earning and decision-making in your work. \nThe workshop series combines strategic input with interactive exercises and systemic coaching methods. It is designed for you if you want to move from visibility to real leverage in how you work and earn. \n  \nPart 1: Expanding Your Artist Brand \n09. June\, 2 – 6 pm \nPosition your multifaceted work for the next level of opportunities \n  \nPart 2: Beyond Gatekeepers \n16. June\, 2 – 6 pm \nBuild more independent and sustainable artist income \n  \nThis workshop is for you if: \n\nYou are already established\, visible\, have reach and an audience\, and generate income through your work\, but want to become more independent from external structures\nYou are working across multiple projects\, roles or formats and want more clarity and direction in how you communicate all of this through your brand to attract the right opportunities\nYou feel that your work has an impact\, but this is not yet fully reflected in the opportunities and structures around you\n\nIt is NOT for you if: \n\nYou are at the very beginning and still looking to define your artistic direction or positioning\nYou are looking for quick fixes\, generic formulas or one-size-fits-all advice on how to earn more or grow your audience\nYou are not currently open to reflecting on your existing structures\, dependencies or decision-making around your work

DESCRIPTION:Expert: Susanne Geisler \n\nComposer\, Songwriter\, Lawyer\, Creative Coach for Neurodivergent Artists\, Music for Film and TV\, Synesthetic Composer\n  \nShort Content \nBased on the latest findings on creativity and the experiences of the artistic profession of a songwriter\, basic methods are presented to strengthen and sustainably establish a creative mindset\, especially for songwriters on the one hand\, and to ensure quick access to their own topics and ideas on the other hand. \nThe Workshop \nIn a world where we have to position ourselves\, unique storytelling is becoming more and more important. But good lyrics take time\, a challenge in professional songwriting where songs not only have to be written but also finished within a few hours. Quick access to ideas and lyrics is\, therefore a basic requirement for professional songwriting. \nBut how do I stand out from the market with unique lyrics and ideas? How do I manage to develop a flow in sessions in which I can generate lyrics quickly without them having to lose uniqueness? And what role does my own biography play in this? \nBased on the latest findings on creativity and psychology and the experiences from the artistic profession of a songwriter\, basic methods will be presented to strengthen and sustainably establish a creative mindset\, especially for songwriters on the one hand\, and to ensure quick access to one’s own topics and ideas on the other. The workshop aims to equip participants with an awareness of different creative techniques to help them find unique themes and song lyrics.

SUMMARY:Artist Meetup - Summer
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to be hosting our next Artist Meetup on 22 June at Luftschloss / Atze Musiktheater. \nThe Artist Meetup is a regular networking format for musicians in Berlin\, bringing together artists across scenes and genres to connect\, exchange ideas\, find new collaborations\, and build supportive structures. At the core of the Artist Meetup is a stage program featuring eight short presentations from different musical backgrounds\, giving artists the chance to share insights into their current work. \nEach participating artist has approximately 10 minutes to perform two songs or tracks live with a simple setup. Alternatively\, you may present a music video or talk about a project. Feel free to use the stage to mention what you’re currently looking for (your future drummer might be in the audience)\, to ask for feedback\, or to share ideas. \nIf you’d like to perform at the Artist Meetup yourself\, apply now using our application form here by 31 May 2026. \nAfter the stage program\, there will be time to connect over drinks and music — both with the presenting artists and all other participants. The aim is to exchange ideas\, meet potential collaborators\, and move forward together rather than alone. There will also be opportunities to communicate beyond the stage what you are offering or looking for. \nWe are looking forward to an open and lively exchange — across different scenes\, interests\, and levels of experience. \nThe Artist Meetup is also a great opportunity to experience a diverse showcase\, discover new music\, meet musicians from different scenes\, and spark future collaborations. \nDoors: 7:00 p.m.\nStart:   7:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:"Let’s talk about…" – Open Peer-2-Peer Exchange for Musicians
DESCRIPTION:Moderated by Melissa Perales \nMusic curator\, promoter\, and cultural worker from Chicago\, who has been shaping Berlin’s independent music scene since the 1990s \nThe group session “Let´s talk about … ” expands our consulting work into a small-group format that creates space for questions\, exchange and shared learning. \nThe format is accessible yet structured: it offers guidance while placing strong emphasis on peer-to-peer exchange. The sessions are designed both for artists who are new to Berlin and for music professionals already active in the scene who want to expand their networks\, share knowledge\, and reflect together on how to build sustainable artistic careers in a rapidly changing cultural landscape. \nRather than one-on-one consulting\, the sessions create a shared space where experiences are exchanged\, practical questions are discussed\, and new connections are formed – with the aim of contributing to a stronger\, more sustainable\, and more inclusive music scene. \nThis open session focuses on Berlin’s live music scene: securing gigs\, building connections with venues\, communication\, and the question of how artists can collaborate beyond the isolation of the DIY approach to build stronger collective structures. \nSession Structure\n1. Check-in & IntroductionBrief round of introductions. Participants share the questions\, challenges\, or topics they submitted in advance. \n2. Focus Session / Exchange The session is structured around 2–3 key themes that emerge from participant input and a pre-selected focus topic. \n3. Closing & Next Steps Summary of key insights\, open questions\, and possible next steps – such as follow-up consultations\, workshops\, contacts\, or future collaborations. \nFormat\nThe core of the session is moderated peer exchange: everyone contributes their own experiences\, questions\, and perspectives. \nIt’s not only about finding answers\, but also about strengthening connections\, encouraging collaboration\, and developing a shared understanding of the challenges of working in today’s music ecosystem. \n\n90 minutes\nmax. 8 participants\nmoderated by Melissa Perales\nLanguage: English

SUMMARY:STIMME IM KOPF\, KRAFT IM KÖRPER – MENTALE RESILIENZ FÜR MUSIKER:INNEN
DESCRIPTION:Expertin: Susanne Geisler  \nComposer\, Songwriter\, Lawyer\, Creative Coach for Neurodivergent Artists\, Music for Film and TV\, Synesthetic Composer \nPart 1 – Die Stimme im Kopf\nFokus: Selbstkritik\, Vergleich & innerer Druck \nViele Musiker:innen kennen sie: die innere Stimme\, die bewertet\, vergleicht und unter Druck setzt.

SUMMARY:Holding the Band Together
DESCRIPTION:When You’re the One Keeping It Together \nCoach: Simon Hoffmann \nTaking responsibility for bands\, projects\, and grant applications can feel meaningful — and frustrating. Many artists find themselves holding the overview\, managing multiple tasks and “hats”\, navigating tensions\, and keeping things moving alone\, often without feeling seen or supported. \nThis workshop offers practical tools for artists who carry responsibility in complex creative environments. We will explore how to communicate more clearly\, regulate emotions in challenging group dynamics\, and create more sustainable ways of working together. \nWith Simon Hoffmann\, Berlin-based cellist and systemic coach. Simon consults dozens of startups on how to navigate complex work environments.

SUMMARY:How the Modern Music Industry Actually Works
DESCRIPTION:The music industry is often presented as a collection of disconnected parts: labels\, managers\, publishers\, distributors\, booking agents and streaming platforms. But understanding how these pieces fit together is often more valuable than understanding any single role in isolation. \nThis interactive workshop is designed for independent artists\, self-managing musicians\, emerging managers and anyone looking to better understand the business side of music. Together we’ll explore how the modern music industry actually functions\, how money and rights move through the system\, and how different industry professionals support an artist’s career at different stages of development. \nThrough real-world examples\, discussion and practical exercises\, participants will learn how the recording industry\, publishing\, live performance\, management\, distribution\, sync licensing and collection societies connect. We’ll also examine common industry myths\, discuss whether artists really need every part of the traditional industry structure\, and explore how independent artists can make informed decisions about building their team. \nBy the end of the session\, participants will have a clearer understanding of how the music industry works as a whole\, how revenue flows through the ecosystem\, and how to navigate their own careers with greater confidence.

SUMMARY:How 2 Tour Internationally
DESCRIPTION:Expert: Jamila Al-Yousef \nMusician\, Theater maker\, Festival Curator\, and anti-discrimination Consultant \nTouring internationally as an independent artist can feel overwhelming\, especially when you don’t have an agency\, big budgets or existing industry connections. This workshop shares practical strategies and lived experiences on how to build sustainable international networks\, book your own concerts abroad\, and create opportunities beyond traditional music industry pathways. \nAt the same time\, international touring can be deeply joyful and transformative. It creates spaces for cultural exchange\, solidarity\, inspiration\, and meaningful human connection across borders. The workshop also reflects on the fact that being able to travel and tour internationally is a privilege that is shaped by passports\, visas\, financial resources\, and global inequalities. \nTogether\, we will look at topics such as: \n\ninternational networking and relationship building\nbooking DIY tours and concerts abroad\nshowcase festivals and conference strategies\nfinancing & funding opportunities (i.e. Initiative Musik export funding\, Goethe Institute\, BMC Music Ambassador\, residencies…)\n\nThe workshop is especially aimed at independent\, emerging and marginalized artists who want to develop international perspectives and sustainable touring practices outside mainstream industry structures.\n\n\nAbout the facilitator:\n\nJamila Al-Yousef is a Berlin-based cultural studies scholar\, musician\, theater maker\, festival curator\, and anti-discrimination consultant. As a trainer and consultant of cultural organizations\, clubs and festivals\, she works with a power-critical and trauma-informed approach and centers the perspectives of those affected.
